Manuel Pellegrini has revealed the motivation within the Manchester City squad is "very high" after regaining the initiative in the Premier League title race.

The Sky Blues are back in with a shout after league leaders Liverpool surrendered points to Chelsea last weekend, helping Pellegrini's team to come within three points of the top with a game in hand.

The Chilean manager thinks that his team will now have to play the same way they have for the entire season to keep themselves within touching distance of the title.

“The only important thing for us is to think about what we can do", Pellegrini told his club's official site.

"And the only thing we can do is to try and win our games and to have that wining mentality.

“Of course when you just depend on what you can so it is better for all the players.

"At this moment the motivation is very high, but now it’s important that the performance must also be high.

“I think that the most important thing that we must do in these next three games is to try and play the same way we have the whole season and the same way we work every day."

Manchester City visit Goodison Park this weekend to take on Roberto Martinez's Everton followed by matches against Aston Villa and West Ham on 7th and 11th May respectively.
