Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann signed a contract extension with the club which will keep him in Gelsenkirchen until 2019.

Fahrmann joined Schalke’s youth set-up in 2003 and made rapid progress through the ranks to make his first-team debut against Borussia Dortmund in September 2008.

The club’s sporting director Horst Heldt has expressed his delight at tying down the 25-year-old on a long term contract with Schalke and said that Fahrmann is a very important part of the club’s future plans.

"We're delighted that Ralf Fahrmann has tied himself down to Schalke for a long term", Heldt said in a statement.

"Despite many injury setbacks, he has never let himself get down and he has worked hard to make his return in goal.

"Fortunately he's been successful because Ralf is a very important factor in our recovery in the second half of the season, and he can now define himself as Schalke through and through."

Fahrmann is looking forward to the time he will spend with the club in the future and said that playing for Schalke has been a dream come true for him.

"My dream is getting even better", said the goalkeeper. "I feel at home here and I'm looking forward to the coming years with Schalke."

The 25-year-old shot-stopper has made 21 league appearances for Schalke this season and has kept 11 clean sheets.

Schalke are currently third in the league table on 61 points and in line to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
