AC Milan may well lose out on signing Valencia defender Adil Rami on a permanent basis, with Arsenal and Manchester United leading the race for the Frenchman.

Rami joined Milan on loan from Valencia officially in January and the Rossoneri have until 19th May to do a permanent deal for the centre-back.

But according to Italian daily Tuttosport, Milan have fallen down the pecking order in their bid to sign Rami, amid strong competition from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Indeed, the Serie A giants are already looking at an alternative to Rami in the form of Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex.

The Brazilian is out of contract at PSG in the summer and Milan are prepared to offer the former Chelsea man a contract worth €2.5m per year.

Alex has made 29 appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 this season, helping the club to retain their French crown.
