Norwich City manager Neil Adams believes that Sunderland had lady luck on their side in the last few weeks, which helped them to avoid relegation this season.

Sunderland’s win over West Brom on Wednesday guaranteed safety for the Black Cats and condemned Norwich City to relegation from the Premier League.

Adams believes that Sunderland had their fair share of luck in the last few weeks with regards to the circumstances in which they faced some of the teams.

"The circumstances they had their games have been vastly different to when ourselves have had our games, but it doesn't take anything away from them", Adams told Norwich City TV.

Sunderland have collected 13 points from their last five games which helped them to stave-off relegation this season. They have beaten Chelsea and Manchester United on their home turf and only a late Samir Nasri equaliser helped Manchester City to avoid defeat at the Etihad Stadium against the Black Cats.

"Yes they played Manchester City and Chelsea probably at a time when they were contesting the league or thought they could win the league.

"Same at Old Trafford; we had sort-of the carnival and they had after the carnival."

The 48-year-old believes that Sunderland did have some good fortune on their side but he gives credit to the Black Cats for taking advantage of their luck and achieving the results to get the points on board.

"They have had little bit of luck that way and even they would admit that but if we put ourselves in that situation and if we would have done that then we will be saying, 'hang on we deserve a little bit of the credit'.

"No matter what the circumstances they got the results and they deserve huge credit for that.

"They had a little bit of good fortune but they still had to deliver results and I fully congratulate them for that.”
