Former Chelsea midfielder Alan Hudson believes that Wayne Rooney shouldn’t be picked in the England World Cup squad that will fly to Brazil this summer.

England manager Roy Hodgson will pick the 23-man squad and seven more players as standby on Monday in Luton.

Hudson, who represented Chelsea in the late 1960s and the early 1970s, feels Rooney doesn’t deserve a place in the England squad and believes that he is not world-class anymore.

"I wouldn't pick him. I'm surprised everyone still calls him world -class", the ex-England international was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The 62-year-old blames the former Everton hitman for some of Manchester United’s woes this season.

"United have been awful this season and I put some of that down to Rooney."

In a dismal season for Manchester United, Rooney has been one of the bright spots at Old Trafford. He has scored 17 goals and assisted 12 in 29 league games for the Red Devils in this campaign.

The Liverpudlian made his debut for England against Austria in 2003 and until now has earned 89 caps for the Three Lions.
