The American group interested in buying Cagliari from Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino say they have started concrete talks to acquire the Serie A club.

Cellino is thought to be open to cashing in on Cagliari if the right offer presents itself, as he looks to mastermind a promotion to the Premier League from the Championship for newly acquired Leeds.

Luca Silvestrone, the representative of the American consortium, is currently in Sardinia and has held talks with Cagliari's mayor, while discussing building a new stadium for the Serie A outfit, which would be designed by architect Dan Meis.

And Silvestrone claims his group have been in touch with Cellino's entourage

"We've met with the club's lawyer Accardi, who has been in constant contact with president Cellino", he told a press conference in Cagliari.

"We saw all the club's assets, the land at Santa Caterina, Assemini, and the stadium, Sant'Elia.

"Now the investors will see what interests them. The club have reiterated their intention to sell and today we have the conditions to move forward."

Should the American group be successful, they intend to aim for 2017 as the date to finish work on Cagliari's new stadium.
