Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is continuing to keep mum over what statement owner Randy Lerner may make next week.

Lerner has been linked with selling Aston Villa and has promised to make an announcement next week clarifying the situation, amid speculation that parties interested in buying the club would not push a deal through if the team were not in the Premier League.

Villa have survived, though they ended their campaign with a damp squib today, going down to a 3-0 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur to finish 15th.

And Lambert has struck a philosophical note about Lerner's forthcoming statement.

"What is going to happen next week will happen. It's a great club and it shouldn't be where it is", he told the BBC.

"I'm the manager of the club and hope to still be here.

"It's plain to see what we need. If you don't get investment, then it is always hard.

"It's a massive club and the lads are hurting with the criticism but, as I said to the lads, they should be proud for staying up because it's a hell of an achievement."
