Massimo Cellino may continue to hold shares in Italian side Cagliari in the event of any takeover of the club.

The businessman recently acquired 75 per cent of Leeds and has been open to selling Cagliari, with an American consortium pushing ahead with their bid to buy the club.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Cellino may hold onto some Cagliari shares if he sells to the American group, though no details have been finalised.

Cellino has been linked with shipping a number of Cagliari players to Leeds, including defender Danilo Avelar, midfielders Sebastian Eriksson and Andrea Tabanelli and striker Victor Ibarbo.

However, this has not gone down well with Cagliari fans, a number having been angered at the businessman appearing to focus more on Leeds than the Sardinian club.

A deadline of sorts is approaching in the Cagliari saga, with the American group having vowed to build a new stadium, and the Italian authorities needing to know where the club will play next season by 20th June.
