Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to steal Croatian starlet Mateo Kovacic away from Italian giants Inter this summer.

Kovacic has declared his happiness at Inter in the face of growing transfer speculation, however the 20-year-old may be forced into a decision if the Nerazzurri accept a big-money bid.

The classy playmaker also interests Arsenal and Manchester United, but according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Rodgers is captivated by his talent and is desperate to win the race for his signature.

Indeed, Rodgers has positive memories of his last transfer foray to Milan, when Philippe Coutinho was captured by Liverpool.

Coutinho has proven a sensation on Merseyside and Rodgers is keen to repeat the trick with Kovacic.

The Croatian, who was dubbed the "new Robert Prosinecki" in 2011, is not likely to push to leave Inter however.

"I am happy because I arrived at Inter, a great club", Kovavic explained last month.

"I'm still adapting, I am young and I have to improve so much. But I want to become a leader at Inter", he added.
