Roberto Martinez has insisted that everyone associated with Everton is delighted following Ross Barkley’s World Cup call-up.

The 20-year-old was included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the showpiece event on Monday along with his Toffees team-mates Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

And Martinez feels that the midfielder, who has scored seven goals in all competitions this term, fully deserved the recognition for his impressive displays this season.

“As you can imagine, the whole family of Evertonians are delighted”, the Spaniard told his club’s official site.

“We all know that Ross Barkley is quite a unique talent and it is pleasing to see that he has been rewarded by his call-up to the national side. But more significant is that he will have the opportunity to enjoy the World Cup.

“Ross will get the chance to lead our young talent at the club and he is a clear example of what can be achieved by working hard at your game and enjoying football with Everton.”

Martinez, who is of the opinion that Barkley can be a game changer in Brazil in whatever role he is utilised, went on to laud the youngster’s talents.

“Ross brings incredible technical ability with his right and left feet. He has a physicality that can break teams down on the counter-attack and he is someone that can score magical goals”, he added.

“Ross is a young player that is still developing but his character is the biggest strength that he has. He will always bring a helping hand to what is needed in the team.”

Barkley has thus far earned three international caps for England, all of which were substitute appearances against Moldova, Chile and Germany last year.

The starlet has also represented the nation at various youth levels.
