Leeds United have appointed former Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday forward Benito Carbone as a consultant.

The Italian's arrival had been on the cards after Leeds' new owner Massimo Cellino pledged to put Carbone in charge of revamping the club's academy.

Leeds announced in a statement: "The club are delighted to announce that Benito Carbone has joined the club in a consultant position and will deal with technical and football operations.

"The former Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Derby County and Middlesbrough midfielder will be involved with all football matters, including both the first team and the academy."

Cellino himself said last month: "We have a lot of things to do and we need to start from the bottom again with the academy.

"Benito will rebuild the academy with my help", the new Leeds owner added.
