Switzerland international striker Josip Drmic has revealed why he chose to sign for Bayer Leverkusen, despite fierce speculation he would be heading to join Arsenal.

Drmic recently completed a switch from Nurnberg to Leverkusen, with the BayArena side winning the race for his signature.

Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus said at the end of March: "I know that his wife is already looking for an apartment in London. I assume that he will play for the rest of the season with 1.FC Nurnberg before Nurnberg sell him for a good profit. Destination: Arsenal."

But Drmic has joined Leverkusen and explains he felt the switch to the Bundesliga outfit was the best fit.

"From the beginning I had the feeling that this club suits me", he told Bild.

"I like the style of play and there are many young players in the team", Drmic added.

And Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller also played his part in convincing Drmic to make the BayArena his new home.

"The first meeting with sporting director Rudi Voller was impressive", the striker revealed.

"There is something special when such a big personality like Mr Voller wants to employ a young player like me. To sit opposite him was a great experience."
