Incoming Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants Patrice Evra to remain at Old Trafford.

Evra has been pondering whether to end his eight-year stint with the Red Devils, amid serious interest from Italian clubs Juventus and Inter.

Evra had been thought to be leaning towards a new challenge and a clean break with Manchester United.

But according to Sky Italia, Van Gaal has asked that Evra is kept at the club, believing the Frenchman to be a key figure in the dressing room.

Van Gaal is expected to be confirmed as Manchester United's new manager next week on a two-year contract.

Current club interim boss Ryan Giggs is likely to be named as Van Gaal's assistant.
