Samuel Eto'o could land at Roma this summer, with the Giallorossi having initiated discussions over potentially signing the striker.

The former Inter hitman is out of contract at Chelsea and has decided to leave Stamford Bridge. Eto'o is thought to have been angered by Blues boss Jose Mourinho questioning his true age and yesterday dubbed the Portuguese a "fool".

Eto'o has decided against a move for purely monetary reasons, which could have taken him to Asia, the Middle East or the United States, and wants to play in the Champions League – meaning Roma, who have finished second in Serie A, fit the bill.

According to Italian outlet Leggo, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini met with Eto'o's agent Claudio Vigorelli last week.

Roma requested information about Eto'o's status, with the player's agent confirming his client is ready to return to Italy and would be prepared to play for a club other than his former side Inter.

Eto'o's wage demands have been identified as a potential stumbling block, but the striker's representative intimated there is room to adjust his expectations.

The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer.
