Former Inter board member Tommaso Giulini has wasted little time in confirming he is in talks with Massimo Cellino to purchase Serie A side Cagliari, dubbing the next week "decisive" for any deal.

Cellino, who acquired 75 per cent of Leeds United recently, is seeking to sell the Italian club as he bids to focus on leading his new side to promotion to the English Premier League.

An offer of €50m from Giulini has been mooted, with Cellino even thought close to putting the finishing touches to the sale next week at a meeting in Leeds.

Now Giulini, a member of the Inter board until last year, has confirmed talks are indeed under way for him to take control of the Sardinian outfit. The takeover plans are, according to the businessman, at the stage of due diligence.

"I can confirm that at the moment we are dedicated to the due diligence of Cagliari Calcio, to find a healthy club, despite the problems involving the stadium", he told Tutto Cagliari, referring to the issues surrounding the side's current Sant'Elia home.

"There is a feeling that everyone needs to stick to the same direction for the good of the team", Giulini continued.

"Even if the timing is very tight in view of inclusion in the next championship.

"Next week should be decisive one way or another."
