Thibaut Courtois is waiting with baited breath to learn Chelsea's plans for him, having acknowledged that the Blues' current number 1 Petr Cech "is one of the best goalkeepers in the world".

Courtois, who is coming to the end of his third consecutive season-long loan with Atletico Madrid, helped the Spaniards knock Chelsea out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage this season.

The Belgium international won La Liga with Los Rojiblancos at the weekend and now has one game of his loan spell left – the Champions League final on Saturday.

But the ball is in Chelsea's court to decide his future after that date, with Courtois pushing to play regular first team football if he returns to Stamford Bridge.

"I have two years contract [left] with Chelsea, so we will see", Courtois was quoted as saying by ITV.

"If I move somewhere, I will play. With my age, what I want, the most important thing for me, is to play.

"We will see what happens."

And Courtois is conscious of the fact that Chelsea already have a world-class goalkeeper between the sticks.

"But Petr is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he won the golden glove in the Premier League, and I have a lot of respect for him, so we will see what Chelsea decide and what they plan to do."
