Paul Scholes does not expect to be called upon by new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

The former Manchester United midfielder returned to Old Trafford at the end of the season to aid interim player-manager Ryan Giggs following the sacking of David Moyes.

But with Van Gaal having taken the reins at Manchester United on a three-year contract, Scholes feels the Dutchman will not call him into his coaching staff.

Scholes wrote on his Paddy Power blog: "I'm not waiting for a phone call and don't expect to be at Old Trafford next season."

Van Gaal has already appointed Giggs as his assistant manager, while he is bringing long-time confidants Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout with him to Old Trafford.

The former Bayern Munich boss will take charge when Holland's World Cup campaign ends, Van Gaal currently in charge of the Oranje's push in Brazil.
