Chelsea are preparing to sell David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for around £40m, according to the BBC.

Luiz is wanted by the French champions and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has opted to allow the former Benfica stopper to move on for the right price.

Central to Chelsea's decision is not just a playing perspective however, with the Blues feeling selling Luiz will create funds to spend on new arrivals while also allowing the club to meet UEFA's financial fair play rules.

The Brazilian defender has three years left to run on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but has been linked with an exit over the last 12 months.

Barcelona were credited with an interest in Luiz, while Manchester United were also mooted as a possible destination in some quarters.

Luiz has not been sold yet however, although discussions between the two clubs are thought to be at an advanced stage.

The Brazil international would link up with countryman Thiago Silva in the heart of the PSG defence if he makes the move.
