Hellas Verona have taken advantage of their option to purchase Juan Iturbe from FC Porto, paying €15m to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis.

Iturbe has spent the season on loan at Verona, impressing with his performances in Serie A and scoring eight goals in 33 league games.

Verona had the right to buy Iturbe as part of their loan agreement and now they have taken advantage of their option, sending a hefty sum to Portugal.

However, it was far from clear the Serie A side would be able to buy the Argentine, with Iturbe having attracted attention from a number of bigger clubs.

Liverpool have been consistent suitors, while Real Madrid also entered the race recently. Inter however withdrew, deeming the sums needed to secure Iturbe excessive.

Despite Verona splashing out €15m to complete the signing of Iturbe on a permanent basis, it remains to be seen whether the continued transfer speculation around the Argentine will cease.
