Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club's heavy defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool this season left him mentally crushed.

The Gunners suffered a 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea in March, while they visited Anfield and were put to the sword 5-1 in February.

Both results were big factors in the Gunners slipping out of the reckoning for the Premier League title, and though they finished the season by winning the FA Cup, Arteta concedes those matches had an impact on his well-being.

"I’ve felt really good throughout the season, but obviously I don’t want to go through games like the Chelsea and Liverpool ones again", he told his club's site.

"That was tough to come to terms with – I’m a very competitive person and when I lose like that my head just blows away."

Arteta claims however that physically he is good condition, despite now being 32 years old.

"But physically I’ve been fine, I’ve played in the holding role quite a bit and slightly differently when I’ve played along Mathieu [Flamini]. Things have felt okay", the Spaniard concluded.
