Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij has played down talk that a move to Lazio is all but done, insisting that he has not been told of an imminent transfer by his agent.

The Holland international, who has been linked with a number of clubs, including Premier League giants Manchester United, now managed by his coach at international level, Louis van Gaal, is thought to be closing on a switch to Lazio.

The Serie A side are thought to have agreed a fee of €8m with Lazio and are racing to complete the deal before Holland head to the World Cup, where a good performance from De Vrij could prompt a scramble for his signature.

However, the defender has played down talk he is poised to be on the move.

"Now I'm focused on the World Cup. I can't say anything and I've not had any signal from my agent that a transfer has already been closed", he told Lalaziosiamonoi.

"Of course I read the newspapers, but the rumours do not bother me.

"It makes no sense to talk about them while I am here with the Netherlands."
