Bayern Munich have confirmed that striker Claudio Pizarro has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The Peru international played for the Bavarians between 2001 and 2007 and rejoined the club on a one-year deal last season following his stints at Chelsea and Werder Bremen.

Turkish giants Besiktas were interested in roping in Pizarro, whose contract with Bayern Munich was due to expire in the summer, but the Bundesliga champions moved in quickly to acquire the services of the 35-year-old for another season.

And Pizarro lauded Bayern Munich and insisted that his side will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming campaign.

“We are an unbelievable squad and we have a lot of fun together – in the new season we'll attack properly again,” the veteran told his club’s official site.

Pizarro scored 11 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich last season.

The striker, who made his senior debut for Peru in 1999 as a 20-year-old, has 72 caps and 17 goals for the nation to his name.
