Spain’s national team manager Vicente del Bosque is keeping his fingers crossed about Diego Costa’s injury but believes he has other options to replace him.

Costa scored 36 goals for Atletico Madrid this season but struggled towards the end of the campaign due to a hamstring injury.

The former Real Madrid manager has said that he is keeping a close eye on Costa’s recovery and wants to give the striker a chance to recover until the last minute.

“Diego has got a muscular injury; we’re monitoring him closely and keeping an eye on how it evolves; we will wait until the last minute before making our decision”, the 63-year-old said in an interview with Cadena SER.

Del Bosque has said that he is in no hurry to pick the final squad and wants to wait until the deadline day of 2nd June before making any decision.

“We’re not doing this on a whim – we have until June 2 to submit the list of 23 players and so we have no reason to be hasty.”

The World Cup winning coach is hoping that Costa can recover before he names his squad but said that he has options to replace the injured striker.

“I really hope he makes it, but if he doesn’t we have other options.”
