New Leeds United striker Billy Sharp is hoping to win over the club's fans with his performances on the pitch as quickly as possible.

Sharp joined the Yorkshire giants from Premier League side Southampton yesterday, penning a two-year deal at Elland Road.

The 28-year-old, who spent time on loan at Reading and Doncaster Rovers in the Championship last season, is now relishing the chance to turn out for Leeds and has emphasised the importance of striking up a rapport with the club's fans.

"I’m delighted, this is a great place to play football and I can’t wait to get started", Sharp told the club's site.

"In the summer I heard there was interest and I have been hanging on and hanging on.

"But like I said I’m delighted that it is over the line now and I’m a Leeds United player.

"I’m buzzing that I’m here and I’m hoping that I can get a good start and get the fans on my side."

Sharp is also hoping to turn out in front of large crowds at Elland Road, along with increasing his goal-haul at the ground.

"Elland Road is a special place to play. Whenever you play here you are well up for it. I’ve managed to score a couple of goals here at the Revie end and hopefully I’ll be able to do that a lot more times now.

"It’s nice to play in front of big attendances so hopefully we will get them again."
