Predicting when Radamel Falcao will be at his best for Manchester United is mission impossible, admits manager Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United snapped up Falcao on a season-long loan from Monaco before the transfer window closed, with the deal also containing a purchase option should he impress at Old Trafford.

Questions have though been raised over whether Falcao will ever be back to his best, given he suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury with Monaco earlier this year, which saw him miss the second half of last season along with the World Cup.

Van Gaal still rates the Colombian highly, but is unable to say when Falcao will show his best at Old Trafford.

"That's a question we cannot answer", he was quoted as saying by ITV.

"That's also dependant on form, shape and we cannot predict that", he added.

Van Gaal was also unwilling to reveal whether Falcao will make his Manchester United debut tomorrow against QPR.

"I cannot tell if you he plays or not, because that's our surprise", the Dutchman said.
