Neil Lennon claims he is delighted to have taken over as Bolton Wanderers manager and is pleased to inherit several players he attempted to sign for Celtic.

The Northern Irishman left Celtic at the end of last season in search of a new challenge and has now agreed to take on the task of raising Bolton from the bottom of the English Championship.

It is not something he is displeased with and Lennon says he is relishing the task in front of him with the Trotters, having been convinced of taking the job last Wednesday.

"Once I had spoken to Phil [Gartside, the chairman] on Wednesday then my mind was made up. It was just a case of persuading them I was the right man", he told a press conference today.

"I’m happy with what I’ve got. It’s a clean slate for everyone. I know the players well and tried to sign some for Celtic", he continued.

"This is a huge challenge and that is what I was looking for. Things went really well at Celtic but it was time for a change."

Lennon's first match as Bolton boss is this coming Saturday, when the Trotters travel to take on Birmingham City.

At present Bolton, who sit bottom of the Championship, have just five points from eleven games.
