Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has explained that he is aiming to reach double figures in the goalscoring department this season.

The English international, who scored five goals in all competitions for the Reds last term, opened his account for the season by netting the winner for his side in their 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion before the international break.

And Henderson insisted that he is aware that he needs to improve in order to provide a regular goal threat for Liverpool.

However the 24-year-old, who revealed that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers always wants him to push up the pitch, feels reaching double figures this season is an “achievable” target for him.

"I think it is achievable", Henderson told his club’s official site.

"I still think I need to improve in that area, which I've said many times before.

"I need to keep getting better so I continue to work on that. I need to keep getting in the right areas to score goals. Hopefully I can improve on last season and get into double figures.

"In the conversations I've had with the manager, he always wants me to get forward – whatever position I play in – and try to be a threat on goal. I need to keep doing that, it doesn't matter from what position."

Henderson has thus far scored 14 goals in 141 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool since joining the club from Sunderland in 2011.
