Louis van Gaal admits he didn't like Manchester United's performance this evening, despite his side beating Burnley 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Chris Smalling put Manchester United in front in just the sixth minute, with the defender heading home from close range.

But Burnley hit back through in-form Danny Ings, who levelled for the Clarets in the 12th minute by heading home a Kieran Trippier cross with aplomb.

Manchester United struggled to find a second, but it did come, just on the stroke of half time, with another Smalling header from an Angel di Maria cross, 2-1 to the Red Devils.

A third for the hosts arrived in the 82nd minute, when Di Maria being fouled in the penalty box and Robin van Persie converting from the spot, making no mistake and it was 3-1.

Manchester United closed out the win, but Van Gaal was far from happy as Burnley forced good saves from David de Gea and enjoyed the better passing game throughout, even though he admits the result and three points are welcome.

"We were not good, especially not good in the first half and we we're lucky we had a good result at half time, so I could recover the shape a little bit. I didn't like this performance today", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We have to be happy that we can win when we are not performing well and we have to forget this game of course.

"But after this match you cannot say that we are going up and I want to progress every match", Van Gaal added.
