Liverpool assistant boss Colin Pascoe is keeping tight lipped over Brendan Rodgers' absence from the club's Melwood training ground this morning.

Pascoe stood in for Rodgers' media duties following Liverpool's 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, explaining that the manager had to head off to catch a plane.

It was soon suggested that Rodgers was heading to watch a player in Italy ahead of a potential swoop. And today Rodgers was absent again for Liverpool's pre-Crystal Palace press conference.

Pascoe stood in for his boss, but would not be drawn on the specifics of why Rodgers headed into Europe.

Questioned at a press conference, Pascoe said: "He had to shoot off after the game for a meeting in Europe."

Pascoe was pressed, being asked 'player connected?' and replied: "No, it's a club matter.

"But anyway, it's none of your business", the Welshman added with a smile.

Liverpool are already thought to be advanced in their planning to add players to the squad over the summer, but it remains to be seen if Rodgers' trip to Europe was for a scouting mission or related to a potential new addition.

The Northern Irishman spent over £100m on new players last summer in an attempt to bolster Liverpool's squad.
