Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits he is waiting for a call from the club's doctor before making a decision on injured players being involved against Preston North End on Monday night.

The Dutchman lost both Phil Jones and Daley Blind to injuries during Manchester United's 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley in midweek, which sees the Red Devils sitting third in the Premier League standings.

Van Gaal admits that, ahead of Monday night's FA Cup tie against Preston North End, he has handed his players the day off, with only those with injury concerns coming in to the club's training base to have their knocks assessed by the Red Devils medical staff.

And now he is waiting for the doctor's verdict before planning his team for Monday.

Van Gaal told a press conference: "I think Jones shall be difficult to play on Monday.

"Blind, I don't know, we have to wait and see how he recovers.

"Robin van Persie also has something, so now I have given the players a day off.

"Only the injured players have visited our centre, but the doctor has not called me yet so I cannot say anything."

Manchester United are tipped as strong favourites to progress past Preston in the FA Cup on Monday night, but did need a replay to beat Cambridge United in the last round.
