Olivier Giroud wants Arsenal to ensure they remain solid defensively, believing it is the route to success against their rivals in the Premier League.

Arsenal were mean defensively recently away at Manchester City on their way to an impressive 2-0 victory, while they again kept a clean sheet at the weekend in a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Giroud, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough, feels that defensive solidity is crucial for the Gunners, especially when games against their rivals roll around.

The French striker told his club's site: "It’s a pleasure to play with the boys and I think we are really strong offensively.

"[We need to] do a great job together defensively as a unit, like we showed at Manchester City, it’s a good idea to do it again and again, especially against big teams.

"We need to be focused on our defensive game, because we know that up front we are always going to create chances to score", the striker added.

Arsenal have a number of key games coming up, with their Champions League round of 16 tie against Monaco on the horizon, along with an FA Cup quarter-final away against Manchester United.

In the Premier League, Arsenal have conceded 28 goals so far this season, seven more than league leaders Chelsea.

Next up for the Gunners is a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace at the weekend.
