Jose Mourinho admits that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois got his Chelsea side out of jail against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes this evening.

The Portuguese saw his side enjoy the better of the first half of their Champions League round of 16 first leg and they headed in at half-time leading 1-0 after Branislav Ivanovic used his head to put Chelsea in front in the 36th minute.

But PSG came out with renewed belief in the second half, upping their intensity and taking a firm grip on the match as Chelsea dropped back.

They equalised through an Edinson Cavani header in the 54th minute before then putting huge pressure on the Chelsea goal.

Courtois needed to be equal to the task and he was, making a series of impressive stops as Chelsea left the French capital with a 1-1 draw which puts them in pole position for the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

And Mourinho concedes his side are somewhat lucky to leave the Parc des Princes level.

"When you see the performance of our goalkeeper you have to say yes [we got out of jail], he made two or three important saves in the game", the Chelsea manager told ITV.

"We could have lost, so I think the result is a positive one.

"I don't say very good because it depends on the result of the second leg, but it is a positive result against a very good team with fantastic technical players.

"It was a difficult match."
