Arsenal defender Calum Chambers believes that English teams need to adapt during their European fixtures as referees dish out punishments more easily for challenges in Europe than their Premier League counterparts.
Chambers, who joined Arsenal at the start of the current season, has featured in all but one of their Champions League fixtures this season. He has an assist to his name when he provided the pass for Kieran Gibbs’ 89th minute equaliser during their 2-1 win over Anderlecht in their third group game.
The youngster collected five yellow cards in his first seven Premier League matches and is yet to be cautioned in the Champions League.
In an interview with Arsenal site, Chambers said that the style of play and the level of tolerance displayed by European officials is different from the Premier League. As a result English teams need to adapt their games to accommodate the difference.
“It’s a lot different to the Premier League in terms of the style of play and the match officials.

“You have to slightly adapt your game to it. I feel we’ve had some good results in Europe and I’ve enjoyed that.
“English football is a lot more physical, and in Europe you have to be careful with your challenges. I think in Europe, fouls are given a lot easier.
“That means you have to make an adaptation to your game when the style of football changes.”
Arsenal have successfully qualified for the Champions League round of 16 where they are scheduled to play French Ligue 1 outfit Monaco on 25th February in the first leg of their tie.
If selected for the Gunners’ game against Monaco, Chambers will look to help them seal a win to give Arsene Wenger’s side a decisive hold on the tie.
