Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has lavished praise on Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and feels that the Dutchman will start winning trophies soon.
Van Gaal took the reins of the Red Devils at the start of the current season and has taken the club to fourth in the table after their struggles under David Moyes last season which saw them finish seventh in the league and miss out on European competition as a result.
Mourinho, who worked as an assistant to Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s tenure at Barcelona in the late 1990s, has heaped praise on the manager.
“He is a fantastic coach and it's easy for me to say as I know him so well and he is a fantastic person”, Mourinho said on Sky Sports Goal On Sundays programme.
The Portuguese insists that Van Gaal is learning the ropes of English football and once he gets a grip of it he will start winning trophies.

“But he has been in so many years of his career before he came to England. In the same way a player needs time to adapt to understand things to perform at the highest level it is the same for Louis.
“He will have time to make Manchester United win titles again.”
Manchester United have successfully advanced to the quarter-final of the FA Cup where they have been scheduled to play Arsenal when the competition resumes in March.
Mourinho feels that Van Gaal has a chance to start his stint in England by winning the prestigious domestic cup come the season’s end. He further added that the Red Devils have it in them to sustain their push for a return to the Champions League and successfully achieve that objective.
“This season they still have a chance to do that with the FA Cup and they also have the opportunity to finish in the top four and go back to the Champions League, which is the minimum for a team like them.
“When you see the titles he has won and his experience, I don't see any reason why they can't be pushing for titles.”
