Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho feels that there is no comparison between the Blues’ squad during his first stint at Stamford Bridge and his current group.

Mourinho, who managed Chelsea from 2004 until he unexpectedly departed in September 2007, has been in his second stint with the current Premier League leaders since joining in the summer of 2013.

During his first tenure at Stamford Bridge, the Portuguese won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups.

In his second spell, Mourinho is yet to collect a trophy and he refuses to compare the two sides as a result. Although he admits that the current side have a lot more potential than Chelsea of the 2004/05 season.

“The team in 2004/05 had finished and we have just a couple of players left from then”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“I refuse to compare a team that won everything with a team that has won nothing.”

His first Chelsea were often criticised for placing more emphasis on defence than attacking play and were content on preserving their lead once they went ahead.

On the contrary his current team have played free-flowing and attacking football and Mourinho feels that the personnel he has at his disposal have allowed him to play more beautifully.

“But I think if we have the chance to win then we have the potential to play more beautifully than the other team.

“The profile of the team is completely different. Now we try to control the game by having the ball and having more possession.”

Chelsea are currently atop the league table as they look to secure their first Premier League title since the 2009/10 season.
