Leeds United have confirmed that defender Scott Wootton has penned a new contract at Elland Road.

Wootton, who spent time on loan at Championship rivals Rotherham United earlier this season, has been handed a one-year extension which will keep him at the Yorkshire giants until the summer of 2017.

The 23-year-old was instantly restored to the Whites starting eleven by manager Neil Redfearn upon his return from loan at Rotherham and quickly contributed.

Wootton has been a key man in Leeds' current run of form, which has seen five out of the last six games won by the Whites, including victory at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Wootton arrived at Leeds from Manchester United in the summer of 2013.
