Leonardo Jardim has revealed that Monaco’s more organised approach was the reason behind their win over Arsenal last night.

Geoffrey Kondogbia and Dimitar Berbatov scored goals either side of half time to shock the home fans at the Emirates last night. And while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s curling strike in the first minute of stoppage time did lift the Arsenal spirits, another goal from Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco in the 94th minute put Monaco firmly in control of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Arsenal are now facing the daunting prospect of scoring three goals at the Stade Louis II next month against one of the most frugal sides in Europe at the moment and the Ligue 1 side are aware that if they continue their run of impressive defensive performances then a place in the last eight of the competition is not too far away.

Jardim was highly impressed with his side’s performance last night in north London and stressed that Monaco’s more organised approach won the game for them. He insisted on the importance of finding a fine balance between attack and defence and believes his side gave a master class on European football in the second half against Arsene Wenger’s men.

“Football is an art”, Jardim told UEFA.
