Dejan Lovren has showered praise on his Liverpool team-mates after their win over Manchester City’s yesterday and stressed that his side are now fighting for a top three finish in the Premier League this season.

Two sumptuous strikes from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho helped the Reds to register a thrilling 2-1 win over the English champions at Anfield.

Liverpool are now fifth in the league and are now just two points off fourth placed Manchester United, but the defender insisted that they are not just aiming for a top four position after yesterday’s win, with third placed Arsenal in their sights.

Lovren praised his team-mates' performance against the English champions, especially after a disappointing Europa League exit and indicated that Liverpool are now looking to finish in the top three at the end of the season.

Reflecting on the game, the Croat believes Liverpool showed their class and talent to negotiate difficult opponents such as Manchester City on a deteriorating Anfield pitch and stressed that they deserved the three points.

“It was a difficult game, but we started very well with an amazing goal from Jordan and it was unlucky that we conceded soon.

“We started much better in the second half and it was difficult to play on the pitch; it was not perfect, but we showed our class and talent and deserved the win.”

Liverpool host Burnley on Wednesday before welcoming Blackburn Rovers next Sunday to Anfield for their FA quarter-final clash.
