Manchester United have nudged ahead of Manchester City in the race to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan in the summer transfer window.
Roma are aware that the Belgian is a wanted man and have set out their stall to realise the maximum price from the 26-year-old's sale.
Nainggolan is still partly owned by Cagliari and Roma have been holding talks with their fellow Serie A outfit about cashing in on the player.
There is talk of a fee of €40m for Nainggolan, which would be split 50-50 between the two clubs and according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United have moved ahead of Manchester City in the race.
Louis van Gaal is keen to add Nainggolan to his midfield and it has been suggested a yearly salary of €4m will be put in front of the player.

Manchester City too are keen on the Belgian, but the Red Devils are further along the track in arranging a deal.
Nainggolan started his career in the youth ranks at Germinal Beerschot, but quickly moved on to Italy with Piacenza.
He joined Cagliari in 2010 before then switching to Roma in 2014.
