Celtic boss Ronny Deila has blasted the referee in his side's 1-1 Scottish Cup draw against Dundee United today, saying that Aiden Connolly dived to win a penalty for the hosts.

The quarter-final started with incident at Tannardice as both sides found themselves reduced to ten men.

Scott Brown and Virgil van Dijk were involved in an incident with Calum Butcher on the ten minute mark, but the referee showed a red card to Dundee United's Paul Paton in a case of mistaken identity, while Van Dijk was then sent off for Celtic.

Dundee United then took the lead from the penalty spot after Aidan Connolly was fouled by Anthony Stokes, leaving Nadir Ciftci to slot the ball home just before half-time.

In the second half it was then Celtic who received a penalty, with Paul Dixon blocking a Leigh Griffiths shot with his hand. Dixon was shown red, but Griffiths could not take advantage and saw his penalty shot saved.

Griffiths made amends though in the 71st minute after he was picked out with a beautiful ball by Stefan Johansen, found space and headed home.

No further goals were forthcoming however and a replay is needed to separate the pair and decide who will advance to the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Deila said after the match that he did not see the incident involving Van Dijk, but he did say he saw the penalty incident and explained it was clearly a dive.

"You see what you see", he told Sky Sports.

"It's a dive of course.

"I think we are the only team in Scotland, with Derk Boerrigter, to get a suspension because of diving."

Deila also believes that Celtic did enough to win the match and should have prevented the tie going to a replay on account of the chances they created in the second period.

"We created four or five big chances and should have won the game."
