Liverpool defender Kolo Toure feels that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has proved that he is the number one at the club and can stay at Anfield for many more years.

The Belgian had a tough start to the season and was dropped from the team by Brendan Rodgers for a brief period during December.

However, the shot-stopper worked hard and came back stronger and has now become a mainstay between the sticks for the Reds.

In the 45 matches Mignolet has played so far this season for the Reds, he has managed a total of fifteen clean sheets, which Toure believes is an admirable feat.

The 34-year-old also praised the response from Mignolet after having been dropped from the team and then working hard to make a comeback.

"I'm not surprised Simon is playing so well because I knew he was a great goalkeeper", Toure was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website.

"Every player has tough times. It's about how you respond to that and his response has been fantastic. He has been working hard and doing the right things.

"He has proved he's the No.1 and he can be here at Liverpool for many years. Not only does he make big saves but he's also not scared of taking responsibility and coming to take the ball from crosses."

The former Manchester City player also took time to add that his club are thankful to have someone like Mignolet as their goalkeeper, a player who has the ability to command their box.

"It's amazing when you have a goalkeeper like that who commands his box. His form has been great and I'm really pleased for Simon."

As far as his own and the other defenders' works are concerned, Toure stressed that they needed to help Mignolet by defending well in front of him.

"We need to help him by defending well in front of him."
