Arsene Wenger is delighted with his Arsenal side beating Burnley 1-0 earlier today and believes they had to fight for the result.

In a tight game at Turf Moor, one moment produced three points for Arsenal when Aaron Ramsey blasted the ball into the back of the net in 12th minute, after Burnley had given the ball away on the halfway line.

Burnley tested the Arsenal goal, calling custodian David Ospina into duty on numerous occasions, while the Gunners could have extended their lead through a Santi Cazorla free-kick, which whizzed just wide.

Arsenal held on to claim the victory and three points which have now moved them to within four points of league leaders Chelsea, although the Blues have two games in hand.

Wenger is pleased with his men taking all three points, but believes they were made to work for them by a quality Burnley outfit.

"I’m pleased with the performance because it was a more fighting performance than a fluent performance", he said via his club's site.

"Many people question us on that side but I would first say that I’m surprised by the quality of Burnley.

"It would be a shame if they go down because they are fantastically well organised, they press very well, they have a great solidarity, they are very fit and I understand now why they took points from the big teams here.

"We had to fight, we had to be combative until the end and we couldn’t score the second goal. Our defenders played well today and won us the three points."
