Louis van Gaal has spoken of his delight that Marouane Fellaini is a Manchester United player and declared he does not want the Belgian to play for anyone else.

Fellaini was snapped up in the summer of 2013 by former Manchester United boss David Moyes, who bought him from Everton for £27.5m.

But the Belgian endured a nightmare first campaign at Old Trafford which left him close to the exit door last summer. Van Gaal though has revitalised Fellaini and made him central to his plans – and the Belgian scored Manchester United's second goal in their 4-2 win over Manchester City today.

Along with Ashley Young, who scored the Red Devils' first, Fellaini won Van Gaal's praise and a wish that he only ever plies his trade at Old Trafford.

"Ashley was Man of the Match and I think that was right. If I had to choose, I would have chosen him", he told MUTV.

"Also Fellaini is very important in our game-plan and I’m very pleased that he plays for Manchester United and no one else."

Manchester United's win over their local rivals has extended their advantage over the Citizens in the Premier League to four points, with Van Gaal's men third and Manchester City fourth.

Next up for the Red Devils is a visit to Chelsea next weekend.
