Feyenoord's hopes of signing John Guidetti have suffered a blow with the news that the Celtic striker's salary demands may be too much for the club to afford.

The Rotterdam side want to pair Guidetti up with Dirk Kuyt in attack next season; having secured Kuyt recently they are now focusing their attention on Guidetti.

Kuyt has signed a contract with Feyenoord and will join the club when his current deal with Fenerbahce expires at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old is a cult figure at Feyenoord, one of his former clubs, while Guidetti is also a fan favourite at De Kuip, having enjoyed a loan season with the Rotterdam side in the 2011/12 campaign.

Feyenoord are doing all they can to sign Guidetti, but at present are worried about his salary demands, according to Dutch outlet Soccer News.

The Celtic striker, who is on loan at the Scottish club from Manchester City, is out of contract at the end of the season, but Feyenoord are still sweating over how much they will have to pay in wages to take him to Rotterdam, feeling it may be unaffordable.

Guidetti also has interest from elsewhere, with Celtic keen to keep him on a permanent basis and Marseille and Inter also having been linked with making the Swede offers.
