Leigh Griffiths feels he did his job tonight after he came off the bench to fire in a hat-trick for Celtic to help the Bhoys to a 4-1 win over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

Celtic tried to take the initiative in the first half, but struggled to get going and could not find a way past the Kilmarnock backline, both sides heading off at the break 0-0.

In the second half, Daryl Westlake stunned Celtic by handing Kilmarnock the lead in the 50th minute, with a shot which took a deflection.

Scott Brown quickly pulled Celtic level though just eight minutes later, before the introduction of Griffiths off the bench just past the hour mark pushed the home side forward.

Griffiths grabbed superbly taken goals in the 66th, 80th and 85th minutes to truly put Kilmarnock to the sword, helping Celtic to a 4-1 win and three Premiership points.

Celtic are now eight points clear at the top of the Premiership and Griffiths is delighted, despite admitting he was initially disappointed to be left out of the starting eleven.

He told BBC Radio Scotland: "I was disappointed to be left out, but I came on and scored a hat-trick and that's what I'm all about – scoring goals.

"The quality in this team, we should be beating teams like Kilmarnock.

"They were lucky to go into the lead. It took a massive deflection and we bounced back from that.

"We are looking forward going into Sunday [against Inverness in the Scottish Cup semi-final] and I've done myself no harm by putting my name in the hat."
