Louis van Gaal has revealed he may have to play Wayne Rooney as a holding midfielder for Manchester United against Chelsea due to a spate of injuries.
The Red Devils boss has been playing Rooney as Manchester United's central striker and the England captain has answered the call with style, driving Manchester United on an impressive run of form.
But pack shuffling may be required for the daunting trip down south to lock horns with Chelsea, with Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Daley Blind all picking up injuries last weekend.
Van Gaal was quoted as saying by the BBC: "It is the worst scenario.
"Marcos and Phil can both play left central defender, and Jonny Evans is also suspended so I do not have many choices.

"Daley Blind and Michael Carrick could playing holding midfield player and I do not have another option. It is a puzzle."
Manchester United head into the game against Chelsea well aware that to keep their faint Premier League title hopes alive they must beat Jose Mourinho's men at Stamford Bridge.
At present the Red Devils sit eight points behind Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table and beating the Blues would pile pressure on Mourinho's side.
