Liverpool will be active in the summer transfer window, manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted, explaining that work is ongoing on identifying players who can strengthen the squad for next season.
Rodgers, who sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer, proceeded to splash over £100m on new signings, but Liverpool have slipped from second place last term to fifth so far this season; the Reds look unlikely to finish in the top four and enjoy Champions League football once again.
The Northern Irishman accepts Liverpool spent a large amount of money last summer, however he is adamant they will be shopping again this year.
Asked about transfer plans at a press conference, Rodgers said: "There was a lot of money spent last summer and a lot of players coming in.
"Our ambition is greater [than finishing fifth and reaching two cup semi-finals].

"We have to be planning forward and that means bringing in players in the summer and we're well on course for that.
"We want to add to the squad. There's a group of people who will look at players."
Liverpool exited the FA Cup at the semi-final stage last weekend, losing their clash to Aston Villa at Wembley. Rodgers will be keen for his men to bounce back this weekend when a trip to the Hawthornes to face West Brom is on the agenda.
The Reds are seven points off a top four spot at present, with games quickly running out.
