Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes his old club wasted the money they received from selling Gareth Bale and Luka Modric to Real Madrid.

Redknapp bossed Spurs between 2008 and 2012, but was sacked despite a finish of fourth spot in the Premier League, only being denied Champions League football because Chelsea won the competition.

In the summer of 2013, on the back of Bale’s sale to Real Madrid, Spurs lavished over £100m on new signings. But the club have failed to climb into the Premier League’s top four and finished fifth this term.

And Redknapp thinks the money that was spent has been wasted.

He wrote on his blog at social network Kicca: “All that £120m or whatever they spent from Gareth Bale and Luka Modric has been pretty much wasted really.

“The signings, almost to a man, have been a disaster.”

And Redknapp believes that despite leading Spurs into the top four he should have had the side finishing even higher in the Premier League standings during his time at White Hart Lane.

“We finished fourth twice and should have finished higher in all honesty”, the 68-year-old, who left QPR earlier this season due to needing knee surgery, added.
