Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits that the team had to dig hard to get their win over CSKA Moscow last night.
Unlike against Crystal Palace in the weekend, the Red Devils started brightly last night at Old Trafford and created a number of goalscoring opportunities, but their goalscoring woes continued.
However, Rooney broke the deadlock for the home side 79th minute, which earned them all three points and took them to the top of Group B, ahead of PSV Eindhoven in second who won last night against Wolfsburg.
It was Manchester United’s first goal after three back-to-back goalless draws in all competitions and it was also Rooney’s 237th goal for the club, equalling Denis Law’s tally for the Red Devils.
On equaling Law’s record, Rooney told the club’s official website: "I am extremely proud, Denis [Law] is a legend for this club. To equal his goalscoring record is a huge honour for me."
