Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he respected the decisions of Darren Fletcher, Jonny Evans and Anders Lindegaard to join West Brom.

After failing to get too many opportunities under Van Gaal, Manchester United allowed Fletcher to join West Brom on a free transfer in January this year and Evans and Lindegaard followed the former Red Devil to the Hawthorns in the summer.

The former Red Devils have established themselves as crucial parts of Tony Pulis’ squad and are expected to line up against their former club tomorrow at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal has great respect for the group and feels that the former Red Devils had the gumption to take the decision to leave a club of Manchester United’s stature for their career’s sake.

He admits that the easier option for the trio was to linger on at Old Trafford and collect their wages, without being part of the first team picture too often.

Van Gaal said in a press conference: "To make the decision to go from United to another club is a big one, but they have made it out of ambition and I like that very much.

“You can also decide to stay and not play and train – a lot of players are doing that, but I have a great respect for these players.”

Manchester United will be looking to assert their dominance and collect all three points against a West Brom team who have a good record on the road this season.
